No
matter how often smartphone technology churns in a new feature, you
have no problem keeping up because you've always been a techie.
Unfortunately, this is not the same for your grandmother. Your
beloved grandma's eyesight has been on decline for years, and now,
she can't even tell the difference between numbers and letters on her
current cellphone's keypad, much less know how to take advantage of
the latest cell phone features.
Luckily,
your grandmother can't miss a text or call from you if you get her a
phone that's especially designed for seniors like her. Unlike young
professionals like you who can't do without music applications and
games, seniors don't have much use for these techie features--unless
they are really obsessed with playing Candy Crush. In addition,
touchscreen phones may be the trend now, but they are not ideal for
seniors.
For
these reasons, it's wise to look for a phone with a standard keypad,
not a touchscreen one. The keypad should have numbers and letters big
enough for grandma to easily see when she's typing. You certainly
don't want her to commit embarrassing spelling errors.
Some
phones are even equipped with keypads that have voice functions which
play back the letter or number that was pressed, leaving little room
for mistakes. The cell phone’s screen should also have a bright
display so your grandmother can easily read the messages sent to her.
A cellphone with hearing aid compatibility is also something to
consider.
