Most
of today's mobile
phone packages factor in download minutes to cater to users who
love to download apps, mp3s, and other files to their phones.
However, such a feature is something that many seniors do not need.
With the high costs of cell phone subscriptions these days, seniors
do not have to pay for a feature that they won't likely use anyway.
Seniors
who are looking into cell phone plans should look at the basic plans,
which cover only the simplest functions like texts and talk time
minutes. Unlike plans designed for smartphone users, some basic plans
don't come with additional taxes or monthly fees, both of which can
really put a dent on one's wallet.
However,
most cell phone plans that cater to seniors do require an activation
fee. To ensure that they don't overspend on their cell phone budget,
seniors have to determine their usual talk time, including those
minutes spent calling grandkids or friends from out of state. It
would not be wise to go for a plan that covers 300 minutes per month
when one spends only an average of 150 minutes for the same period.
Contracts
are also typical with cell phone subscriptions these days. A few
carriers are notorious for tying down their customers in two year
contracts, and collecting on huge termination fees should subscribers
find themselves dissatisfied with the service. In contrast, cell
phone plans for seniors are flexible and typically require no
contract.
